いのる【祈る】

1 〔祈とうする〕 pray 《to God》; say [《文》 utter] a prayer; offer (up) a prayer; fall [go down] on one's knees; 〔食事前後に〕 say grace; 〔食前に〕 ask [say] a blessing; 〔祈願する〕 《文》 invoke 《blessings, the aid of the deity》; supplicate 《God for…》.

●神の加護を祈る pray to God to protect one [for sb's protection]

・一心不乱に祈る be lost [absorbed] in prayer

・神[神々, 祖先]に祈る pray to God [the gods, one's ancestors]

・祈り殺す kill sb by cursing [calling down a curse on] him.
